Press release 10.4.2014

Crafting the curiosity of travellers on the Penistone Line

The Penistone Puzzle project is a community art project investigating the public’s relationship with journeys and art. Jessie Kopka will be running this exciting unique free puzzle event on Thursday 8th May 2014, suitable for all ages; train users, non-train users and puzzle enthuasiasts welcome!

The project, founded by undergraduate Textile Crafts student, Jessie Kopka, has been developed through close consultation with Rowena Chantler, Community Rail officer for the Penistone Line Partnership.

“The project aims to inspire more people to take the scenic journey along the Penistone Line and I hope that my artwork and creative events could act as a catalyst for this” Jessie, who regularly uses several trains throughout her weekly commute from Stoke-on-Trent to Huddersfield became inspired by the idea of creating participatory art work for and within train carriages.

Jessie has taken many journeys along the Penistone Line, taking time to observe and make visual responses to the route. The Penistone Puzzle will be a great opportunity for participants to not only connect with the views of the surrounding landscapes, but interact with fellow passengers, something I feel needs encouragement within longer distance train journeys. My own familiarities within the journey has allowed me to observe the environment and develop artworks highlighting the energy of the Penistone Line"

The day will include: a complimentary return train journey to Penistone, a puzzle treasure hunt, drawing activities and a puzzle assembling workshop.

Spaces are limited, to avoid disappointment book early!
